Directions are quite a simple and easy method of prediction that have been used for centuries in the accurate predicting of the exact moment an event will take place. Directions is a term given to the turning of a chart around to a certain point until its finished its cycle around the circle. The use of Directions is to find out the distance between the Significator and the Promittor of any accident in the Nativity following the progression of the signs.
There are a total of 5 significators which move around the chart, these are often called the Hylegical points; the Ascendant who is seen as the superior point, followed by the Midheaven, the Sun, the Moon, and lastly the Part of Fortune. Each of these points or Significators being directed to a certain place influence over a certain aspects of the Natives life. The directed Ascendant will have influence over the Natives body, the Midheaven towards his public standing and profession, the Sun towards his friends with great persons, marriages, patrimony and his father. The Moon has influence over his wife or mother, journeys, and any gain through matrimony. The Part of Fortune specifically deals with increases or decreases to his estate and wealth. The Significators can meet the Promittors by either conjunction, aspect or being placed in the terms/bounds of a Planet. The more favorable the aspect, the greater benevolence there is on that direction.
The places in which these Significators (Ascendant, Midheaven, Sun, Moon, Part of Fortune) are directed to are called Promittors because they promise the greatness of accidents to happen unto the Native before they happen and the timing in which they will come to pass. They however also declare any danger or destruction that should befall the Native during a specific time as well. By using Directions the Native can accurately judge the good or bad times that these directions shall bring to his being, estate, publicity, marriage and parents. Directions must however be used with other methods of predictions to verify their accuracy and strength. The more strength and support given to the Directions, the greater their result.
To make this description more clear I will give an example of a Direction and its interpretation. We see that the Ascendant in our example is placed in Capricorn 15° and we see that Mars is placed in Capricorn 20°, following the progression of the signs and using the simple 1° equals 1 year (as will be explained in the following chapter) we find that this Direction will occur on the 5th year of the childs life (being 5° from the Ascendant). The interpretation of this Direction is as follows;
The Ascendant directed to either of these, brings many miseries to the Native both of body and mind; sometimes death. It gives the Plague, Botches, boils, small pox, bloody flux, inflammations, giddiness, frenzy, madness, dangerous falls, public accusations before magistrates; the Native is sometimes sentenced to death thereby[...]
As you can see, the child of this Direction during his 5th year of life will experience some form of violent disease or illness and thus be quite sick, even to the point of death. Therefore it is quite important to know and understand all of the Directions that occur in a Nativity in order to capitalize on any positive outcome or prevent any negative outcome that may rise from them.
