Profections is a term given to the moving forward of the Zodiac. In Nativities it is simply the moving forward of the Planets & House cusps into another sign each divided equally. There are three kinds of Profections; Annual (Yearly), Mensurnal (Monthly), and Diurnal (Daily).

To begin with Annual Profections, these profections allow one sign moving (with the progression of the zodiac) being allotted for one year of the Natives life. For example, if the Native was born with an Aries Ascendant, he is given that for the first year of birth, after the first year (the child now being 1 years old) is given the sign of Taurus, the next year (being 2) the child is given the sign of Gemini as an ascendant, and so forth till the 12th sign of the Zodiac in which it repeats itself over. It is important to remember that the cusps degrees and minutes always remain the same during each change.

The Mensurnal Profections follow the same concept as that of the Annual but each month of the childs life the signs shift. Each new month the Native shall be given a new sign until it has reached the 12th sign in which it will restart.

Daily Profections work slightly differently than the Annual and Mensurnal Profections. One sign is used for the first 2 days, 3 hours and 54 minutes after birth. So every 2 days, 3 hours and 54 minutes a new sign will appear on the Ascendant. The next sign will come after 4 days, 7 hours and 48 minutes and thus repeated forever. This Profection method is deemed as tedious and not as useful as the Annual which is often seen is superior and equal to that of a Solar Return or Revolution.

In order to judge Profections its important to understand a few simple rules. The first thing to understand that every year in which the Profection remains the same as the Nativity (in the case of Annual Profections every 12 years which is also when Jupiter makes his return) the year is said to be benevolent and beneficial. Its also to be noted that whenever the chart is in Trine or Sextile to the Nativity it is also shown to be benevolent. When it is Square or Opposed to its natural position it is seem as destructive and malevolent.

It should also be noted that if the Profections are in accordance with the Directions they enforce more powerfully the event that is predicted to take place. For Profections show the time in which Directions are going to be initiated and begun.
